Dance Puts Roses on Your Cheeks
"Come thou my pretty maid, to the dance with me,
I have oft wished to dance with thee,
That I may talk with thee
And share caresses with thee"
This dance suit aims to introduce some characteristic couple dances from the treasury of traditional Hungarian culture, including man-woman relationships, the connection between dance and love, the transition from single life to marriage, touching upon the different turning points and celebrations of life. The choreographers of the Honvéd Dance Workshop led by the coordinating editor-director Jolán Foltin ventured to realize this idea. They intend to emphasise the individual character of folk dance and create intimate, lyrical, still powerful compositions.
In the first part, the choreographers have selected pieces from the rich dance material that is to be found on the territory of present-day Hungary. The second part in turn presents a selection from the traditions of the nationalities living together with us and from those of Hungarians living across the borders.
